ABOUT ME

Who
I am Steph; a silly, short, Australian-Born-Chinese Malaysian Sydney food blogger on a constant sugar high. I bake a lot. I like all things purple, sprinkles, rainbows and unicorns. I don't like boring food people. I'm allergic to nuts :(

Why
I originally started this blog to document all the amazing food experiences that I had on one of my many trips back to Malaysia. Then I briefly tried to write about my restaurant experiences but nowadays it's just about the baking. Raspberry is spelt incorrectly in my blog name on purpose, I'm not that bad at spelling. When I was 14 I wanted to pick a new nickname for ICQ (ahh the memories) so I opened up dictionary and picked the first word I saw. And then I decided to switch the 'y' for an 'i', because when you're 14 you like to switch a normal word like raspberry into an eye-assaulting word like RaSpbErri. And then it just kinda stuck. I publish under the name Stephcookie because I originally published under Cookie Monster, then Steph the Cookie Monster - which was just too bloody long so I shortened it. In case you can't tell, I suck at giving myself nicknames!

What
I love to experiment with baking. I try to bring a bit of nostalgia to a recipe by channeling my favourite childhood memories of food. It doesn't always work out, but it's always fun. Don't come here if you are looking for healthy recipes. Or lots of savoury ones. I bake with a lot of sugar and a LOT of butter. And don't say macaroon to me. It's MACARON. If you are a beginner baker, I would recommend to first try out some basic cake recipes from reliable cookbooks like Stephanie Alexander's The Cooks Companion or Delia Smith's How To Cook books (she taught me how to beat my egg whites). Some of my recipes can be a bit tricky and you might need to be quite comfortable with baking so you can tell if you're on the right track. I'm just a girl trying out recipes in my kitchen, I don't have a team of recipe testers to check every recipe I post is foolproof (I wish I did), so please feel free to email me if you believe a recipe has a typo or you have any improvements to suggest.
