Croquembouche Patisserie, Randwick

Can you spot a Gaga?
Picture this: It's a lovely Sydney Saturday and you're about to go on an all-day shopping spree. What's the best way to start off the day? Pastries and coffee maybe? Why not! And lucky, lucky Asian Gaga has this wonderful patisserie very close to her place. I am now jealous of her place.

Mmm...

Almond croissant
Asian Gaga selects a lovely looking almond croissant with her mocha. It has a crisp outside but is moist inside with a generous amount of almond paste filling. It is enormous.

Palmier
I get a palmier for myself, one of my favourite things to get from patisseries. It's so SO buttery and crunchy, with an almost toffee-like exterior. I let Asian Gaga have a bite as she's never had one before and her eyes pop out of her head and she OMGs with a full mouth, which sounds more like "Fomoogos!". We end up sharing it :)

Petit pissaladiere
We also get a tiny pissaladiere to share, just to see what their savouries are like. It's very tasty and rich in flavour, guaranteed to leave us with onion breath. On an impulse we buy some chocolate shortbread for later, some extra sustenance for later in our shopping trip. Unfortunately this is our least favourite purchase, it's a little bit dry and floury.

Chocolate shortbread
The coffees we get with our pastries are very decent, and I firmly tell Asian Gaga that we will be visiting Croquembouche everytime I come to visit her from now on.

On a different note, I also wanted to mention a lovely morning tea I shared with my workmates the other morning. Regex Man visited the Emundi Smoke House in Dulwich Hill and very generously brought in a wonderful spread of cheese, bread and meats for us to feast on.

King Island Roaring Forties Blue
I am only recently starting to appreciate the strong flavour of blue cheeses, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the King Island Roaring Forties. It was very light and went well with our crisp bread roll.

Regex Man brought in a ton of smoked meat from the smoke house. This included smoked duck which I didn't get to try, smoke ham and smoked chicken breast with paprika. These were wonderful, the smoke flavour was infused right through the meat and I loved the crust of paprika on the outside. A mouthful of cheese, bread and smoked meat had me very happy indeed.

If only every morning at work could start like this!

  1. Oh how I wish my coworkers would enjoy their food too, sounds like you had a great morning tea! My buddy had a can of tuna (mustard flavour he boasted!) poured over old rice and some creamed corn, all microwaved up for lunch.

Also Regex Man is a rad nickname haha

  2. Did the Croquembouche Patisserie actually have a croquembouche stand? I'd love to see different croquembouche because I reckon it represents the uniqueness of the pastry chef! LOL

  3. My friend told me about this place, good to know that the pastries are good :) I love Danish blues as they are milder as I don't really like the super strong blues.

  4. Mr. Taste - Umm yeah I think I like the sound of our morning tea better! Haha! Yep I think Regex Man likes his nickname quite a lot :)

Trisha - Not that I can remember...but I was half asleep! I loved seeing Zumbo's croquembouche, it was gorgeous.

Lorraine - Me too, I had one not long ago that was so strong that I couldn't hack it. But I really enjoyed this one!

Simon - Yeah I really want to visit it myself now, the meat was tasty.

  5. looking at that cake counter, I would've been there for ages trying to decide what to eat! the palmier does look good and probably what i would've chosen too (they are little time consuming to make at home)

  6. I was there for ages trying to decide! We shuffled back and forth between the sweet and savouries trying to figure out what would be best! I agree, they are one thing I haven't had the patience or finesse to try at home yet.
