Iwa Restaurant, Chatswood (Closed)

When I don't have the energy to line up for sushi at Makoto in Chatswood, I sometimes go down the road to Iwa. It's a dark, narrow yakiniku restaurant which is on the more expensive side of your dinner options in Chatswood. But there's something kind of nice about the little wooden booths with their built in exhausts.

We stopped in for a quick dinner while shopping for new plates and bowls at Wheel & Barrow, so we skip the yakiniku and only ordered a few dishes.

Small sashimi platter
I wouldn't call their sashimi great value. For the price it is, it feels like you get as much ginger and lemon as you do fish. But it is fresh, and includes a plump scallop. I've had worse.

Seaweed salad

The seaweed salad is much more worth it - prawns, squid, wakame, tosaka, tosazu jelly & drowned in white sesame dressing. There's a tad too much dressing but it's good. It's a nice combination of different flavours and textures.

Grilled 'Saikyo' Lamb Chops

It's cold outside and I'm in need of some comfort food so we order the miso marinated lamb cutlets. It comes with a small square of potato gratin which is kind of tasteless and a nice serve of roasted vegetables. I appreciate the foil that is wrapped about the cutlets for easy handling :) It's fatty and moist but you really don't get much for your moolah! To be honest, there are many other places I would pick for dinner in Chatswood over this, it's not unpleasant but probably not worth it.
