Indulgence Cafe, Chatswood (Closed)

Popcorn machine!
I failed on my mission to get everyone to go to Counter Burger for lunch (they wanted to save it for a dinner trip), but instead tried out a new cafe/chocolate shop - Indulgence Cafe. It's a bit far away from the main mall, about a block or two down from Chatswood Chase. But I think this may be the best value cafe I've been to in the area. It has a cute little children's corner, a charming old school popcorn machine and some delicious looking truffles and cakes in their glass display cases.

Just DON'T order the coffee! My coffee was incredibly sad looking (and tasting). But another smart cookie figured out that if they were a chocolate shop, their hot chocolate might be pretty good.

Dark hot chocolate
Oh my, the dark hot chocolate was reaaaally good. Super rich and not too sweet. The regular milk hot chocolate was a bit strange, it tasted completely different and seemed really milky and bland after tasting the dark hot chocolate.

Their breakfast menu is almost bigger than their lunch menu and both are offered until 2PM. My eyes light up when I notice that they offer the choice of brioche with their eggs benedict. I love love love this combination ever since I trying it at Le Petit Creme in Darlinghurst. Their eggs benedict will blow your mind. I was incredibly curious to see how this one would compare.

Eggs benedict on brioche

Brekkie wrap
Overall, the eggs benedict were surprisingly good. The brioche was lovely and sweet, though they still did not beat the rich eggy brioche they sell at Le Petit Creme. The hollandaise sauce was a touch thick but not overly rich, so the whole dish was unexpectedly light. For $13.95, I will definitely come back for this, until I get around to making my own brioche and poached eggs. The brekkie wrap is the winner of the day though. It is ENORMOUS. Just a log of a meal, and so tasty. Bacon, baby spinach, tomato, avocado and the most perfect eggs in a spinach wrap. The egg is cooked somewhere between scrambled eggs and an omelette and are packed full of flavour. And at 10 dollars, I am crowing in delight at this find.

Chicken and Gorgonzola Risotto
I hardly ever order risotto at restaurants anymore. Most of the time they are a huge disappointment, over or undercooked, and sit like a rock in my stomach. But this is pretty good. A little soft, but it came with a nice serve of pancetta on top and the gorgonzola came through nicely. The only pity was they seemed to have added a touch too much truffle oil, which was totally unnecessary considering all the other lovely flavours in the dish, and that was the taste that lingered in my mouth long after.

I'm too stuffed to try the cinnamon coffee cake or the enormous brownies on offer and am grateful for the longer walk back to the main mall after this tasty, inexpensive meal.

  1. So happy to hear the dark hot chocolate is great! (I don't like coffee - but it must have been disappointing for those who do). Those breakfast meals look huge! Did you have enough room for dinner? :)

  4. Yeah I'm sad I wasn't the one who ordered it! But I haven't tried the hot chocolate at any of the great chocolatiers that are popping up all over Sydney so I don't know how it compares to those.

  6. I wasn't either until I noticed it on eatability. Some of the reviewers on there didn't like the coffee either, it's a pity!

  8. I know! I think I did a fairly comical double-take and eye bulge when they came out. Seriously, the wrap was epic.

  9. Ahhh Cupcake mentioned seeing this place and told me to check it out a while back. I found the risotto very creamy but tasty and maybe a bit soft like you said but I found it very enjoyable overall. The wraps were not bad as well but the service was a bit meh. I must check out their brekkie menu hee hee and take a better look at their chocolate counter!

  10. I agree the service was pretty meh, but didn't get too bothered by it because it was just the one girl on her own so I figured she had a lot on her hands...yes definitely check out the breakfast menu, I love brekkie so it was great! :D
